This coming Saturday, April 18 is the Opening Ceremony for West Craven Tarheel League at West Craven Park.  We are planning on being there to help love on our neighbors by offering free water to any who needs it. A smile, handshake and conversation are always an excellent way to open the door to share the love of Jesus.
 
Opening Ceremonies start at 11 AM, however we are planning to be there by 10 AM to get the coolers to the center of the field intersections and a tent set up. We will be there until we are out of bottles of water! Games for the day start at 1 PM.

Ash Wednesday Service

Our Ash Wednesday Service is on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:30pm.  We will not be holding our traditional pancake dinner this year; instead, we invite you to join us directly in the sanctuary for a time of reflection and imposition of ashes.

We are offering Financial Peach University as a Sunday School class starting January 4, 2026! 
At our first class, we will answer any questions you may have about the class and help everyone get registered for the class.  
The class format will be to watch the lesson video the week before we meet, on your own time.  We will "assign" the first video at our first class.  We will review and have discussion during our class time the Sunday after watching each lesson.

Wilderness Kids ministry is starting in January, but we want to jump start the fun this Christmas season with a family wagon ride through the Christmas lights at The Refuge in Ayden.

2026 COMMITMENT TO SERVE
Each year, we ask our congregation to prayerfully consider committing to at least one or two areas of service within our church.
Attached to this email is the 2026 Commitment to Serve form, which details all the ministry areas that help our church reach people and foster growth in their relationship with Christ. Also attached is the 2026 Renewing Our Membership Vows for your review and commitment.
In the past, we have called this our Joshua Ministry Menu, based on Joshua 24:15: "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." This famous declaration was made by Joshua, the leader of the Israelites, as he challenged the people to choose whom they would serve and affirmed his own family's commitment to God.
I encourage you to pray over which area(s) you will be serving in for 2026.  Please return both forms no later than *Sunday, December 7th, by placing them in the basket located in the vestibule.  Printed forms will be available.  It takes all of us to commit to serve, and I thank you in advance for helping ministry happen here at VGMC.

We will be providing a holiday breakfast for the staff (65 people) at VFL Elementary school. We need 4 breakfast casseroles and a large fruit tray. Items will need to be at the church by 7:45AM for us to go set up.
 
Friday, Dec. 19 5:15 to 8:00
Living Nativity at the  crosses on Main Street. Sign up for a block of time to be one of the characters. We’ll help you get dressed in the fellowship hall and then we’ll go over to the crosses to provide a beautiful scene of the first Christmas for all who pass by. When not in “character”, join as we gather together for snacks and beverages in the fellowship hall. There’s a place for each of you, little ones to the most experienced!  C

Discover Vanceboro Global Methodist Church-New Membership Class

We will host a "Discover Vanceboro Global Methodist  Church" class on Sunday, December 14th   from 3:00pm-5:00 pm.  This is an informational class for you to be fully informed about who we are and the way we operate as the body of Christ in this community. We will go over our beliefs, structure and expectations of membership. This class allows attendees to make an informed decision about joining our congregation and is not an expectation for those who attend. The class is designed for you to receive information and ask questions so that if you do decide to join, you are making an informed decision.

Sunday, October 5 is our annual homecoming service. 147 years ago this community of faith began here in Vanceboro and God continues to bless our gathering.

For those new to homecoming, we will gather as usual for Sunday school at 10 and then move outside to the tables and chairs under the large tents for worship service at 11:00. The church will provide some fried chicken and members are asked to bring covered dishes and beverages to be enjoyed by all.
 
It’s always a wonderful day of worship, sharing a delicious meal together, and wonderful fellowship. Please feel welcome to invite others to join us for a very special Sunday.

Our annual Hallelujah Night is coming up in October, but for the event to be a success we need help planning the night! Please join us for the planning meeting on Sunday, September 7th at 4 PM at the VGMC Fellowship Hall, where we will do a breakdown on what is needed for the night and who can help make sure each part comes together like needed!

Operation Christmas Child Packing Party
As we are moving into the fall and starting to think ahead towards Christmas, can you remember the greatest gift that you ever received as a child?  Maybe it was a favorite stuffed animal or a boom box or a car or a handmade quilt from a loved one? Did you know that there is ministry that our church participates in annually that can help give a gift to a child who has likely never before received their own present and you can be a part of this ministry? Every year since the mid1990s, our church has worked with Operation Christmas Child, a branch of Samaritan’s Purse, to help pack shoeboxes that can be sent throughout the world.  These boxes go into parts of the world where people have never heard of God or his love for us through Jesus Christ and are given to the local children.  When the children are gathered by the local leaders in their community they are taught about God and his love for us, then are blessed with their gift of a shoebox.  After receiving their gifts, they are invited back to participate in The Greatest Journey program through Samaritan’s Purse. The Greatest Journey is a 12-session discipleship course where the children learn to know, grow in, and share Jesus Christ.  This knowledge empowers them to share the love of Christ with those in their community that they are close to.  Overall, it is estimated that at least 9 people learn about Jesus through the gift of each shoebox!

In past years, boxes have been packed in families’ homes as well as within the church.   Packing a box is super easy and there is no age limit (young or old) on who can participate!  The first thing you need to do is decide if you want to pack a box for a boy or a girl, and chose which age range your box is for (2-4 years old, 5-9 years old, or 10-14 years old). Boxes can be filled with school supplies, personal hygiene items, small toys, and a “Wow” Item!  Wow items are things that may bring an extra smile to a child’s face, like a soccer ball, baby doll or stuffed animal!  You will be amazed at how many things you can pack into a shoebox, and if the box rattles, more things can fit! Items can be taken out of their plastic wrappers or nested within each other to help get more in there!  Adding a personal item is also recommended, a note from your family to the child receiving the box and even a picture can be included.  If you send your address you may even receive a note back from the box recipient!  Once your box is fully packed, remember to pray that the box will reach the exact child that it needs to. Also pray for the families that the boxes will be going to and that they will be receptive of the Good News, the pastors delivering the boxes, and the communities that can be changed by hearing of God’s great love for each of us!

You have multiple ways to participate in this ministry with VGMC! First off, please pray without ceasing for this ministry and the children that will be impacted by this simple gift. Second, plan to join us for an Operation Christmas Child Packing Party on Sunday, September 14th at 5 PM.

  We have been collecting items throughout the year and will need all the help we can get stuffing all these shoeboxes! All you have to do is show up and everything else will be provided for you!  After the packing party, please take boxes home with you so that your family can pack a few more! These boxes can then be returned to VGMC by Sunday, November 16th,where our church body will pray over these boxes and the lives that they will touch.

Hey friends!  Happy August!  Can you believe that it is ALMOST time for the kids to go back to school for the 2025-2026 school year?   But it is time, also, to think about the many students in our target area of Jones, Craven and Pamlico Counties who come from food insecure homes and may not have enough food on the weekends.  

That's where Backpack Blessings comes in!  Thanks to the support of our AMAZING partner churches, we are able to provide a weekend food bag for kids to take home for supplemental nutrition every Friday.   Last year we served over 950 children in 24 schools and in 3 counties.  We foresee that the need will continue to be great this year.
